The results of these studies present that our diet influences the state of our gut flora, and through these processes it has an impact on our mental state as well. Discussing these results plays an important role in understanding mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety, neurodevelopmental disruptions of children and neurodegenerative diseases of the elderly. In my review I summarize the results of studies examining the effect of the gut flora on the human nervous system and of our diet on our gut and mental state. The results of these studies indicate that the gut microbiome affects depression, anxiety and our cognitive skills. Imbalance of the gut microbiome may contribute to the development of Alzheimer\u2019s disease and Parkinson\u2019s disease and may elicit inflammatory processes which contribute to the development of depressive symptoms.
